Pay Attention

Wanted to share this interested, fact-filled video, much in the same vain as the popular "Shift Happens" video, but this one from TeacherTube (www.teachertube.com).
Perhaps you can share this with your supervisors and directors and teachers, or if you're like me, heed the info in it and apply it to your marketing and communications strategies.

I agree with much of this message, but let me add a perspective to help us realize that not all students are this advanced in technology. Two points I wish to make are these: 1) remember that not all part of the state are equal when it comes to resources; 2) remember that to assume that all students are technology-savvy poses a risk of widening the knowledge gap. Two personal storys point this out. First, in my second job, I teach at DeVry. Approximately 1/3 of my students each term are economically disadvantaged. While 1/4 of my class is on-line (hybrid)and embedded with YouTube and TED videos, these poorer students (many single moms) don't have a computer and struggle with transportation to even get to a library to use a computer. Second, over this past Memorial Day weekend my husband and I were camping in Vinton County. We had no cell phone service over the weekend. And, on Sunday night, I went to a small church. I noticed two worshipers arrived with no shoes (perhaps more of a cultural difference than economics). I simply urge us to remember that while in career centers, we may "give" each student a computer that there is an entire other world that goes without.
